Call for tougher rules on mobile phones in school
The teachers' union NASUWT has called for tougher regulations on the use of mobile phones in schools. This follows the case of teacher Peter Harvey who was cleared of attempted murder and causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
Mr Harvery had attacked a pupil with a 3kg dumbell, which resulted in the pupil suffering a cracked skull. It emerged during the case that pupils were intent on provoking Mr Harvey in class, and then filming it.
The teachers' union said they had seen "case after case" of pupils "acting up" for the cameras and now wanted current guidelines on mobile phones reviewed.
