Children's stomach pain can be imagined away

Up to one-in-five children are estimated to suffer from frequent, unidentifiable stomach pain. New research suggests that children can be taught to "imagine away" the pain through the use of relaxation-style CDs, following a study by the University of North Carolina and Duke University Medical Center in the US.

Researchers believe the technique may work through a combination of reducing anxiety and also having a direct effect on the pain response.

The success of the study could lead to easy self-help techniques for children.
