New advice on codein-based medicines for period pains

When purchasing over-the-counter (OTC) painkillers for period pain, headaches, or other complaints, be aware that extended use can cause health problems and dependency or addiction.

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) announced on 3rd September 2009 new advice on OTC medicines containing codeine and dihydrocodeine (DHC) to minimise the risk of overuse and addiction.
