Vitamin D deficiency linked to early menstruation
New research conducted by the University of Michigan has found a link between Vitamin D deficiency and early menstruation.
They discovered that girls who were low on Vitamin D (at age 11) were twice as likely to start menstruation one year earlier than girls who had sufficient levels of Vitamin D (at age 12).
Researchers claimed that although there is a difference of only one year, this is actually signficant.
The research also highlights the importance of pre-pubescent girls getting sufficient exposure to sunlight in winter months.
