Vitamin D deficiency linked to increase in Rickets in Britain
Rickets is a disease which causes bones to soften and often legs to appear bowed. A disturbing increase in the number of cases of Rickets in Britain has been linked to a lack of exposure to sunlight, through:
- excessive use of sunscreen, or
- children spending too much time indoors.
Vitamin D helps to control the amount of calcium humans absorb and is crucial for the development of strong bones.
